And it doesn&#8217;t lead to a sense of achievement, but to spinning our wheels.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We are so obsessed on focussing on what is wrong with our life and right with &#8216;over there&#8217;, we are immobilised by overthinking.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #333399;\">If we do actually move towards the life we think will be better, we just end up focusing on what is wrong with that situation, too. We find a new &#8216;something better&#8217;, and\u00a0 start the cycle all over again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In fact grass is greener syndrome can contribute to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">anxiety and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/anxiety-counselling-london.htm\">anxiety disorders<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0commitment issues<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/depression-counselling-london.htm\"><span class=\"s1\">low moods and depression<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li>low self-esteem<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/relationship-counselling-london.htm\"><span class=\"s1\">relationship issues <\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/sleep-disorder-counselling-london.htm\"><span class=\"s1\">sleep problems<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/stress-vs-depression.htm\">severe stress<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So what can I do if I have grass is greener syndrome?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>So what now?<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">1.Identify where you learned this habit of attention. <\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Did a parent always complain and see things as never good enough? Or, worse, were you taught that you were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/feeling-not-good-enough.htm\">never good enough<\/a> just as you were? Is your grass is greener syndrome you still trying to impress your parents? Did you grow up in poverty, and take on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/how-to-change-your-core-beliefs.htm\">core belief<\/a> there is never enough? Or did you experience <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/trauma-counselling-london.htm\">childhood trauma<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/what-are-adverse-childhood-experiences-aces.htm\">neglect<\/a>? Are you always looking outwards to avoid the pain inwards?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">When we learn the root of the issue, we can start to see how the real lack in our life is not external, but internal. The more we work to find inner satisfaction, the less our need to find external satisfaction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">2. Learn balanced thinking.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Grass is greener syndrome causes<\/strong> \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/cognitive-distortions.htm\">cognitive distortions<\/a>\u2019 &#8211; thoughts that are not reality-based and are often extreme. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/black-and-white-thinking-stop-drama-addict.htm\">extreme thoughts<\/a> lead to negative feelings, which leads to negative actions, and all combines to create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/types-of-depression.htm\">depression<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>So how to stop<\/strong> the negative spiral? The trick is to write things down daily. And choose things that actually give you a sensation of feeling good over things you think you \u2018should\u2019 be grateful for. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">4. Learn and practice mindfulness. <\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Whereas grass is greener syndrome has you stuck in a future you never reach, mindfulness pulls all your attention into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/present-moment-secret-better-mood.htm\">the present moment<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #800080;\">And the present is the only place you actually can make choices and create change.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The bonus? If you think the moment you are skinny is the day your life begins, spend a day with a skinny person doing exactly what they do, including their diet and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/exercise-and-depression-does-it-really-help.htm\"> exercise routine<\/a>. Is it actually all you dreamed of, or does your present life suddenly seem a whole lot better?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">7.
