If you&#8217;ve been not yourself lately, and it is getting better but not worse? See if the below sounds a bit too familiar.<\/p>\n<h3>10 Depression Symptoms That Might Surprise You<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">1. Coffee has stopped working. <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Lately you are just\u2026. tired. You don\u2019t know how else to put it.<\/strong> You\u2019ve been trying all sorts to get over it. More coffee, less coffee. Going to bed earlier, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/screen-time-recommendations.htm\">not using screens before bed<\/a>, supplements&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You are still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/causes-of-exhaustion.htm\">exhausted<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>There are moments you feel like you are pushing through sand, as if your whole body, every cell<\/strong>, is fatigued. This feels like you are watching yourself from a distance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">4. You are catching every cold and flu going. <\/span><\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #333399;\">A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.edu\/homepage\/health\/2012\/spring\/stress-on-disease.shtml\"> scientist at Carnegie Mellon University<\/a> in the USA has shown that psychological stress makes us more susceptible to colds and also lowers the body&#8217;s ability to manage its inflammatory response.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">If you come from a family, workplace, or culture where depression is seen as unacceptable? You might manifest your depression symptoms in a physical way. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This looks like always have a cold or flu, or having many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/medically-unexplained-symptoms-counselling.htm\">unexplained medical symptoms<\/a> you go to the doctor for but there is no obvious explanation. You\u2019ve been randomly snapping at people.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Your nice girl\/guy image is getting tarnished of late because of a few\u2026\u2019episodes\u2019. <\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Perhaps you<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/is-dealing-with-difficult-colleagues-affecting-your-mental-wellbeing.htm\">snapped at a colleague<\/a>, got caught rolling your eyes at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/how-to-deal-with-difficult-boss.htm\">manager<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s1\">, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/toxic-friends-what-to-do.htm\">alienated a friend<\/a>&#8230; And your poor partner, you\u2019ve really had a go at her lately. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #000080;\">You say you\u2019re just tired, but the truth is, you don\u2019t really know why you feel so moody. What you haven\u2019t told anyone about is the growing feeling inside. But check in with yourself. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>If you are going out way more, is there a sense of restlessness as well, as if you are afraid to slow down and face something?<\/strong> If you are staying home, are you feeling increasingly numb over the last few weeks?<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">7. You\u2019re on a work bender. By choice.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It started as a bit of overtime. But now you are saying no to social events in favour of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/workaholic-symptoms.htm\">workaholism<\/a>, and are saying yes instead to every extra contract that comes your way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #333399;\">You oddly feel a sense of safety each time you tell someone no, I can\u2019t, I\u2019m busy working. And you try not to notice that the moment you have to stop working you feel uncomfortable in your own skin.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">8. There\u2019s some serious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/truth-about-overeating-case-study.htm\">overeating<\/a> happening. <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Snacking is out of control. And you are not able to do portion sizes anymore. It\u2019s not a few slices, it\u2019s the whole pizza. You go out to eat and come home and eat again. Or buy groceries for the week, get home and eat it all in a day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #333399;\">The truth is there is a numb feeling that begins when you<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/the-new-eating-disorders.htm\"> eat a lot<\/a> that somehow makes you feel better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">9. Now suddenly you are finding yourself &#8216;coming too&#8217; late at night, wondering why you\u2019ve gone and binge watched shows yet again. You\u2019ve started watching thing you don\u2019t even like. But you can\u2019t seem to stop. You might even have sneakily been watching at work. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">10. There is a lot more of something else going on.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Not Netflix, but more a lot of&#8230; &#8220;Netflix and chill&#8221;? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/7-myths-about-sex-addiction.htm\">Casual sex<\/a> can be a sign of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/anxiety-vs-depression.htm\">depression<\/a> as well if you are using to to escape your emotions. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #666699;\">The moment you begin aggressively overdoing one thing, and deep down you know you are trying to avoid feeling something? It\u2019s the depression spiral.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">So<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/daily-distractions-be-concerned.htm\"> habits of distraction<\/a> that are a sign we are falling into a depression can also look like: <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">overspending our money<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">hours of online shopping <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/drinking-too-much-alcohol.htm\"><span class=\"s1\">drinking too much <\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">using too many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/club-drugs-and-therapy.htm\">party drugs<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">video games for hours on end<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">reading romance or fantasy novels excessively.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">11. A bit (or lot) of \u2018why bother\u2019 is creeping in. <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Usually you are known for good grooming. But lately? You went out the house in the same clothes two days in a row, or didn\u2019t do your hair, or shave. And you handed in a work assignment without checking it over like you usually do. It\u2019s as if your ability to care about things is lowering by the day. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #993366;\">You\u2019ve been taking risks you usually don\u2019t. <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That Netflix at work, maybe a bit of lying to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/friendship-and-love.htm\"> friends<\/a>, or even things like eating expired food that might make you sick or walking through bad areas alone at night. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>It\u2019s as if something in your is courting troubles or even danger, and you don\u2019t know why.<\/strong> You never thought of yourself as self destructive, but you can\u2019t seem to stop this secret new habit. Maybe because it gives you a sense of waking up and being alive when you&#8217;ve felt so numb lately.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Is this all sounding a little too familiar?<\/h3>\n<p><em>Starting to realise that all your unusual behaviours lately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/quiz-stressed-or-depressed\">might just be depression symptoms<\/a>? Have they been going on for more than six weeks and seem to be worsening? Then time to take yourself seriously.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Talk to someone you trust and see if it helps and you can<\/strong> get to the bottom of what is upsetting you and make a few changes. Perhaps it&#8217;s just some<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/stress-vs-depression.htm\"> heavy stress<\/a> in the end, and there are ways forward.
