Darcy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Have you been wondering if you should give therapy a try?<\/p>\n<p>Or did someone tell you you could benefit, and you wonder if they are right?<\/p>\n<h2>10 questions to ask if you are not sure you need therapy<\/h2>\n<p>Try asking yourself the following questions that cover <em>the most popular reasons people come to therapy.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">1. Have I struggled to be myself lately?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699;\">The main misunderstanding about therapy is that we have to be having a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/what-is-a-nervous-breakdown.htm\">breakdown<\/a> to seek professional support. Not at all. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Therapy is best sought when we realise we are struggling. It gives us the <\/strong>tools to manage so that we never reach that place of breakdown or life <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/self-sabotage.htm\">sabotage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If life has left you off-kilter or moodier than usual, and it\u2019s been going on for a few months or more,<\/strong>\u00a0it is more than enough to merit a chat with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/difference-between-psychotherapy-and-counselling.htm\">counsellor or psychotherapist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">2. Has day-to-day life just felt harder?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Some of us are not so good at knowing what we think or feel.\u00a0<\/strong>So you might think you are &#8216;fine&#8217;, but just notice that life feels challenging on all fronts.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23800\" style=\"width: 276px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23800\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-23800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/wp-content\/uploads\/7599575888_a234f5343c-266x400.jpg\" alt=\"need therapy\" width=\"266\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/wp-content\/uploads\/7599575888_a234f5343c-266x400.jpg 266w, https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/wp-content\/uploads\/7599575888_a234f5343c.jpg 333w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-23800\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">By: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/yaketyyakyak\/7599575888\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer\" \">Dave Catchpole<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>This can look like<\/strong> finding it hard to get up and go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/workplace-stress-myth.htm\">work<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/causes-of-exhaustion.htm\">feeling fatigued all the time<\/a>, leaving social events feeling drained instead of good, and suddenly having no desire to contact your<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/family-gathering-tips.htm\"> family<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If an appointment with your GP doesn\u2019t show up any <\/strong>sort of physical reason for your apathy and exhaustion, it might be time to talk to a therapist. <strong>All of the above can be<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/living-with-walking-depression.htm\"> signs of mild depression<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">3. Do I have a confidante that I can trust to be impartial?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Sometimes a counsellor or psychotherapist is needed because we simply don\u2019t have the support we need at a certain juncture in our life. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The logistics of life can leave us suddenly all alone.<\/strong> Perhaps your<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/symptoms-of-bereavement-how-to-cope.htm\"> loved ones have passed away<\/a>, or are suddenly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/moving-abroad-cause-depression.htm\">in a different country<\/a>. Or perhaps you have<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/getting-over-a-breakup.htm\"> left a relationship<\/a> or job and by so doing lost your social circle.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Other times we simply realise that nobody around us is able to offer us the feedback we need without colouring their responses with their own hopes and desires. We can&#8217;t pinpoint what we ourselves actually need because we are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/great-codependency-hoax-codependent.htm\">too intertwined with the needs of others.<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A counsellor or psychotherapist <strong>provides a safe, confidential and<em> unbiased<\/em> space <\/strong>for you to share and discuss anything that is troubling you.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">4. Is there a big choice I need to make I\u2019ve been struggling with?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>If you can\u2019t seem to gain clarity on something important like a<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/weddings-and-depression-pnd.htm\">wedding<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/changing-workplace.htm\">career change<\/a>, it\u2019s more than enough of a reason to see a therapist. Counsellors and psychotherapists are trained at listening carefully, then asking just the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/good-questions-to-ask.htm\"> right questions <\/a>to help you see a new way forward.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">5. Have I lost interest lately in things I used to love?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Yes, sometimes we just grow up and realise that our old hobbies don\u2019t really suit who we are anymore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But if you can\u2019t explain why you are no longer interested<\/strong> in the sports you used to love, or in seeing the friends you were always happy to be around, and if you\u2019ve also experienced stress or a life change lately, it could be worth talking to a therapist. <strong>Losing interest in life is a common <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/depression-help-guide.htm\">sign of depression.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">7. Have friends been avoiding me, or saying they are worried about me?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If your good friends are suggesting they are worried about you, and\/or your less close friends suddenly avoiding you, it\u2019s worth being brave and booking a session with a therapist.\u00a0 And if it really is in the end just your friends being bossy with you, a therapist is able to help you work on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/how-to-find-friends.htm\">attracting better relationships<\/a> into your life!<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">8. Am I just not bouncing back from something?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A bereavement, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/manage-anger-after-breakup.htm\">breakup<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/life-after-divorce.htm\">divorce<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/why-people-cheat-on-partners.htm\">betrayal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/moving-abroad-cause-depression.htm\">moving country<\/a>, finding yourself with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/empty-nest-syndrome-how-to-manage.htm\">\u2018empty nest\u2019<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/unemployment-improving-self-esteem.htm\">redundancy<\/a>\u2026 such things can leave us on the ground for awhile.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But if it\u2019s been a few months and you can\u2019t seem to recuperate from<\/strong> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/7-warning-signs-acute-stress-reaction-emotional-shock.htm\">shock <\/a>it is suggested to seek support. Sometimes a life change can trigger old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/repressed-memories-are-they-real.htm\">repressed memories<\/a> or<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/emotionally-repressed-signs.htm\"> hidden emotions<\/a> that need dealing with.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">9. Do I have a habit that I keep secret from others that causes me ongoing shame and\/or life problems?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Just because something is hidden doesn&#8217;t mean<\/strong> it&#8217;s not a major problem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And it doesn&#8217;t matter if it&#8217;s something that is socially acceptable or not.<\/strong> Things like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/truth-about-overeating-case-study.htm\">overeating<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/10-ways-help-debt-problems.htm\">overspending<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/workaholic-symptoms.htm\">overworking<\/a> are all <a href=\"\/addiction-counselling-london.htm\">forms of addiction<\/a> that can undermine both our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/building-confidence.htm\">confidence<\/a>, our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/healthy-relationships-help-guide.htm\">relationships<\/a>, and our success. Seek help.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;\">1<\/span><span style=\"color: #993366;\">0. Do I spend most of my life feeling worthless compared to others?<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/self-esteem-and-depression.htm\">Low self-esteem is one of the leading causes of depression<\/a>. And<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/comparing-yourself-to-others.htm\"> always comparing yourself <\/a>(unfavourably) just makes life harder. It might be your career that suffers, or your social life, or your love life. Therapy helps you see yourself from new and more encouraging<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/what-is-perspective.htm\"> perspectives<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>I am still not sure if I need a therapist&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p><strong>These questions cover the most common reasons that people come to therapy, such as<\/strong> depression, anxiety,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/self-esteem-help-guide.htm\"> low self-esteem<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/how-to-cope-life-is-crazy.htm\">difficult life changes<\/a>, and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/addiction-help-guide.htm\"> addictions<\/a>.
