Darcy<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>There are common reasons we can<\/strong> <strong>benefit from therapy<\/strong>, covered in our article &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/do-you-need-therapy.htm\">Do You Need Therapy?<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><em>But there are other, less talked about behaviours and thoughts that might also suggest it&#8217;s time to talk to a therapist.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>12 Questions that show it&#8217;s time to talk to a therapist<\/h2>\n<p>Read on to see if you answer yes to any of the following questions.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">1. Do you often feel that nobody understands you?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s normal for teenagers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/nobody-understands-me.htm\">feel misunderstood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But if you have reached your late 20s or beyond and still feel misunderstood, it can be related to<\/strong>\u00a0intimacy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/who-am-i-identity-crisis.htm\">identity<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/how-to-communicate-stress.htm\">communication problems<\/a>. These are often traced back to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/attachment-styles.htm\">the way we were parented<\/a> or even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/what-is-childhood-trauma.htm\">childhood trauma<\/a>, so it&#8217;s a good idea to talk to a therapist.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Note that sometimes, if the way you see the world is always diametrically at odds with everyone else, it might be a sign that you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/personality-disorder-a-help-guide.htm\">personality disorder<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">2. Over the age of 30, but have failed to sustain a relationship for more than six months?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s often a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/fear-of-intimacy.htm\">fear of intimacy<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/relationship-conflict-still-fighting.htm\">faulty ways of relating<\/a> we don&#8217;t even realise we have that leave us <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/7-surprising-reasons-feeling-lonely.htm\">lonely<\/a>.\u00a0 A therapist can not only help you see and understand the problem clearly, they create a safe space to learn<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/trusting-others-hard.htm\"> how to trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you fall in love constantly, but it&#8217;s over a few months later, or tend to have push and pull relationships,<\/strong> it might also be a sign of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/compassion-for-borderline-personality-disorder.htm\">borderline personality disorder<\/a>. Which is hard to deal with alone, meaning it can be a great benefit to talk to a therapist.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">3. Are you often told that you are too impulsive?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>We are all spontaneous now and then. But if<\/strong> your impulsivity tends to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/self-sabotage.htm\">sabotage your wellbeing<\/a> &#8211; your<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/healthy-relationships-help-guide.htm\"> relationships<\/a>, your career &#8211; then it might be more than just an occasional flight of fancy.<\/p>\n<p>A high level of impulsivity is often reported in those who suffered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/childhood-effects-of-trauma.htm\">childhood trauma<\/a>. In a relationship you aren&#8217;t quite happy in, but you just can&#8217;t leave?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Not being able to leave a relationship is often a sign of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/self-compassion.htm\">low self-worth a<\/a>nd\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/great-codependency-hoax-codependent.htm\">codependency<\/a>. These are deep-rooted patterns it can be extremely hard to shift without support. And the longer you stay, the lower your self-worth can drop, leading to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/anxiety-vs-depression.htm\"> depression<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">6. Suffer from ongoing physical symptoms that your family doctor simply can&#8217;t figure out?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For some, it&#8217;s just ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/release-muscle-tension.htm\">muscle tension<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/sleep-help-guide.htm\">sleep problems<\/a> that are a sign something is not right mentally and you are suffering from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/anxiety-vs-depression.htm\"> anxiety or depression<\/a>. But for others, it can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/medically-unexplained-symptoms-counselling.htm\">unexplained medical symptoms<\/a> that just keep recurring.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699;\">It&#8217;s not fully understood why some people manifest physical symptoms when they are mentally suffering. But if this might be you, therapy can&#8217;t hurt and just might improve your physical health.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">7. And is there any doom and gloom in there?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/negative-thinking.htm\">Negative thinking<\/a> is a major cause of low moods. It leads to a cycle of negative feelings and then negative life choices that keep you stuck in a downward spiral.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/cognitive-behavioural-therapy-london.htm\">Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)<\/a> helps you break this cycle and learn how to practice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/balanced-thinking-benefits.htm\">balanced thinking.<\/a>\u00a0It can be like opening a window you didn&#8217;t know was there.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">8. Do you find it hard to say no to others?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Are you exhausted from always doing things that don&#8217;t really interest you because you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/how-to-say-no-more-effectively.htm\">say yes when you mean to say no<\/a>? Or even find yourself in relationships because you didn&#8217;t know how to let someone down? It&#8217;s all a sign that you lack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/healthy-boundaries.htm\">personal boundaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a hard pattern to change, but if you talk to a therapist you can learn why you have this issue and how to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/victim-mentality.htm\"> take back your personal power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">10. Left untreated, it can mean you don&#8217;t reach your potential, or sabotage good things in life to &#8216;prove&#8217; your belief true.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">11. Do you wake up in the middle of the night with a pounding heart?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are many medical conditions, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/menopause-anxiety.htm\">menopause<\/a>, that can be a factor here. But if your doctor finds you in good health, read about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/anxiety-at-night.htm\">night anxiety<\/a>. Some of us manage to suppress our anxiety in the day, resulting in constant nightly anxiety attacks. Treating the anxiety can put an end to sleepless nights.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">12. Do you really, truly, hate your job?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Yes, many of us do some jobs we don&#8217;t like until we establish ourselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But if you have always done jobs you hate, it might not be &#8216;just life&#8217;.
