And with good reason.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.org.uk\/a-to-z\/w\/work-life-balance\">UK\u2019s Mental Health foundation<\/a> found a staggering 40 per cent of those surveyed neglected other parts of their life because of work. Book now, be chatting as soon as tomorrow.]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>There\u2019s more to balance than just the workplace<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/workaholic-symptoms.htm\">Spending too much time at work<\/a> is not the only way we can be out of balance.<\/strong> We can also be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/addictive-relationships.htm\">obsessed with relationships<\/a> to the exclusion of all else. Or spending so much <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/toxic-friends-what-to-do.htm\">time socialising<\/a> our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/wrong-career-path.htm\">career never progresses<\/a>. We all different<\/strong> priorities and different things that make us feel energised.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699;\">It\u2019s important not to compare yourself to others when it comes to having a balanced life. Just because your friend does yoga every day or goes on many retreats does not mean this will work for you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Take the time to connect with what matters to you. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/journal-writing.htm\">Journalling<\/a> can be useful here. Ask<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/good-questions-to-ask.htm\"> good questions<\/a> such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is my ideal life?<\/li>\n<li>What twenty things make me feel good and energised?<\/li>\n<li>What are the things that most deplete me?<\/li>\n<li>When in my life did I feel most myself?<\/li>\n<li>What places and people do I feel most balanced around?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>The best of all life balance tips?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The most important ingredient of a perfect life balance is knowing your <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/personal-values-know-yours.htm\">personal values<\/a>. These are the things that deeply matter to you. We tend to feel good in life when we are making decisions aligned with our values.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The problem comes when we are doing things based on values we think we have, or think we\u00a0<em>should\u00a0<\/em>have.<\/strong> We might be trying to be like our friends, or trying to impress our family. This means looking at all areas of life, including those you tend to avoid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can find many different formats for <\/strong>creating a life snapshot, such as the \u2018wheel of life\u2019 used by coaches. Or you can create your own categories, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>family and home<\/li>\n<li>travel and adventure<\/li>\n<li>finances<\/li>\n<li>physical health<\/li>\n<li>mental health<\/li>\n<li>social life<\/li>\n<li>spiritual life<\/li>\n<li>life goals<\/li>\n<li>career.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Finding balance<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Once you&#8217;ve divided your life into categories that have all areas covered and make sense to you? Ask good questions about each section.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If you had to rank each area of your life as balanced or unbalanced, what side would each area fall in?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the way things are going?<\/li>\n<li>What would you like to change in each area?<\/li>\n<li>Which areas do you need help in?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>Do you lack boundaries?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Is your life always out of balance no matter how hard you try? One of the main reasons that life balance is difficult tends to be<\/strong> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/healthy-boundaries.htm\">problem setting boundaries<\/a>. This means you<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/how-to-say-no-more-effectively.htm\"> struggle to say no to others<\/a>, do things you don\u2019t really like, and put others needs before our own.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does saying no to others or setting limits leave your frozen with fear?\u00a0 It\u2019s likely your problem with boundaries <\/strong>stems from childhood. Parents who demanded we be good, quiet, happy children all the time means we develop the belief that thinking of ourselves and our own needs is selfish. This can include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/addicted-to-love.htm\">relationship addiction<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/the-new-eating-disorders.htm\">addictions to food<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/drinking-too-much-alcohol.htm\">alcohol<\/a>, exercise, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harleytherapy.co.uk\/counselling\/10-ways-help-debt-problems.htm\">overspending<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Do you need support to find life balance?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Can&#8217;t find life balance?
