Dr Sundar Gnanavel is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He holds a CCT (Certificate of completion in training) in child and adolescent psychiatry. His qualifications include MRCPsych, UK; MD (Psychiatry) from AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), New Delhi, India, and a postgraduate certificate in medical education from Newcastle University. He is section 12 approved and holds RC/AC (responsible clinician/ approved clinician) status under MHA (mental health act). He is a principal investigator for NIHR funded SATURN trial for ADHD and tics.
Dr Sundar’s areas of special interest include assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD and ASD) in children and adolescents including psychopharmacology for ADHD. He also has a keen interest in medical education and is involved in teaching/training trainee doctors, medical students and other multi-disciplinary colleagues. He has several (more than 50) peer reviewed national and international publications in the field including in prestigious journals like Lancet Psychiatry. He is an editor with BJPsych (British journal of Psychiatry) Advances. He has won a number of national and international awards from prestigious organisations including RCPsych (Royal college of Psychiatry), UK; WPA (World psychiatric association); IACAPAP (International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions) and EPA (European psychiatric association).
