Counselling Psychologists at Harley Therapy™ London

Counselling Psychologists can help with a number of issues, commonly anxiety, stress, depression and relationship problems. Harley Therapy is comprised of a group of Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Chartered Counselling Psychologists who practice in Central London. A Counselling Psychologist can offer a general consultation to discuss your issues, background history and establish the focus of treatment.

What does a Counselling Psychologist do?

Counselling psychologists integrate psychological theory and research with therapeutic practice. They work closely with clients to examine emotional problems and explore the underlying issues that may have caused them. They work collaboratively to empower you to make decisions for yourselves in order to improve your sense of personal wellbeing. They work across a diverse range of human problems including bereavement, relationships, mental health issues and other significant life events.

What is the difference between a Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Psychiatrist and Counselling Psychologist?

Psychologists differ slightly from Counsellors and Psychotherapists. A Counselling Psychologist is trained in Counselling Skills but also has previous degree in Psychology, and therefore has a more scientific understanding of the human mind and behaviour. Additionally, Counselling Psychologists differ from Clinical Psychologists who tend to work with more severe mental health issues. On the other hand, psychiatrists have a medical background and can prescribe medication. In comparison, psychologists cannot prescribe medication and instead focus upon counselling and therapeutic techniques (like cognitive behavioural therapy for example) to try and aid the client.
