Dr Simon Mackmin is an experienced Clinical Psychotherapist with over a decade of experience in both inpatient and outpatient services in the NHS and private sector. At Harley Therapy he provides long and short term psychotherapy. He has particular expertise in Neurodevelopmental conditions, personality disorder, issues with sexual compulsions and/or violence, developmental trauma, relationship and attachment issues, anxiety, and depression. Simon adopts a holistic, non-judgemental, and relational approach, offering his clients a safe and contained space in which to understand and work through their difficulties.
Simon trained as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist at Southampton Psychotherapy, and worked with both inpatients and outpatients suffering from psychotic illness and personality disorder at the Gordon Psychiatric hospital in London. He went on to train in Mentalisation Based Therapy for personality disorder at the Anna Freud Centre in London, completing further MBT trainings to work with children with trauma, adolescence, and families. Simon undertook a highly specialised training in Forensic Psychotherapy at the renowned Portman Clinic in the NHS, where he works with complex sexual compulsions and violence.
Simon holds a first-class master’s degree, and a PhD in Psychoanalysis, post graduate certificates in translational neuroscience and neurobiology, and a range of other clinical trainings that allow him to adopt a highly personalised approach in his work with patients. Simon has a strong interest in trauma neurobiology and nervous system regulation. He has worked with a number or organisations to improve awareness, recruitment, on-boarding and accommodations for neurodivergent members of staff.
