Dr Zoë Wilson is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and Certified Schema Therapist. She has training and experience in Person-Centred psychotherapy, Psychodynamic and Brief Psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and has qualified as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
Zoë has been practising psychotherapy with clients since 2006. She has extensive experience of working with individuals across the adult lifespan, with a broad range of emotional, relational and behavioural difficulties. Zoë has offered brief, medium and longer term psychotherapy within a variety of professional settings. These include Primary and Secondary Care NHS services, an NHS Staff Counselling Service, low-cost Counselling Services and an NHS Community Mental Health team.
The depth of Zoë’s training and experience allows her the flexibility to work with clients in a goal-orientated and/or an open, more exploratory manner, depending upon expressed and presenting individual needs. Zoë’s focus is on both problematic symptoms and their underlying cause. Through the process of therapy Zoë develops with clients a comprehensive understanding of their presenting difficulties: seeking to understand how they originated and are maintained. This evolving shared understanding orientates Zoë’s work. The therapeutic interventions she employs are grounded in theoretical rationale and contained within a safe and collaborative therapeutic relationship. The support and expertise she offers helps clients focus upon improving their lives through the awareness they gain and conscious choices they make.
After a few years in TV & Film, in 2004 Zoë changed course to work as a Psychology Assistant at HMP Wormwood Scrubs. It was this experience which prompted her to pursue professional training in psychotherapy, driven by her emerging passion to help improve the lives of others. This purpose continues to drive Zoë’s commitment to her professional role and its values, and underpins the integrity with which she practises.
Zoë’s personal style is warm, empathic and enquiring. She has a particular interest in how early relational experiences influence present life experience, disruptive symptoms, relational patterns and images of self.
